The learning screen can be compared and contrasted with the traditional research paper but I like to think of it as more of an extension of a paper rather than a separate assignment. The learning screen is just another platform that can be used to express information.
Mcnab explains that symbolic visual communication is viewed as the node of connection that links the sender with the receiver. In a research paper that node is the printed word, though learning screen, when a design is communicated authentically around a pattern and a connection is made the same connection is made but through visual image.
The interactivity of the learning screen involves readers on a more intimate level because they are taking part in the design and creativity of the project instead of solely analyzing the work, like in a research paper.
