Welcome to my blog! My name is Amanda Del Duca and I am senior at the University of Florida majoring in journalism with a minor in English. This blog is an assignment for Electronic Literature taught by Professor Gregory Ulmer. This assignment is designed to incorporate both traditional print literature and electronic literature. Through Italo Calvino’s Six Memos for the Next Millennium and Katherine Hayles’s Electronic Literature, I have written my own collection of memos modeled after Calvino.
This blog is a cultivation of summary and description of Calvino’s memo’s and also my own personal aesthetic and interpretation. Through careful analysis of each Calvino’s memo qualities I explained what each means to me and provided examples through E-literature.
In 1985 Italo Calvino began working on a manuscript that consisted of a set of values or memos specific to literature to guide readers into the millennium. Before he died he completed five of six-planned memo’s for the next millennium and his wife Ester had them published. Through each quality; Lightness, Quickness, Exactitude, Visibility and Multiplicity, Calvino provides insightful commentary on some of literatures greatest works in order to establish a set of indispensible qualities for literature.
